The Mike Modano Foundation
Scores Big!
Kites filled the sky over a 39-acre stretch of land on Duck
Creek Drive in Garland on October 2, 2002. These brightly
colored shapes danced in celebration of our most exciting
achievement to date. With the help of family, friends and
supporters, including Dallas Stars player Mike Modano, we
broke ground to commemorate the beginning of the Jonathans
Place expansion project, a new campus that will enable
us to triple the capacity of our care facility.
The ceremony began with
a welcome from KTVTTV/Channel 11s Jody Dean
and a presentation of the Color Guard by the Garland High
School Corps of Cadets. The pledge of allegiance was led
by Private Summer Heidleberg of the U.S. Army, and Rev.
Tom Cloherty, Pastor of All Saints Catholic Church, led
the group in prayer. Garland High School student Junior
Miss Shannon Essenpreis, graced the crowd with a
beautiful rendition of God Bless America.
Following this moving
opening, Lisa and Phillip Matthews were introduced, as was
the guest of honor, Tyler, also known as Jonathan.
