Overview (Continued)
In August 1992, a facility was purchased and totally gutted.
The renovation took two years and cost approximately $450,000.
Most of the work was completed by volunteers and funded
by in-kind donations from local corporations.
On September 10, 1994,
Jonathan's Place opened its doors
as a 12-bed, long-term foster group home. Over the next
five years, Jonathan's Place served
nearly 200 at-risk children.
In the fall of 1999,
we changed our license in order to become an Emergency Shelter,
providing short-term care and increasing our capacity to
13 beds. This license change enabled us to serve 250 children
annually.
Now we are seeking to
more than quadruple the size of our facility, growing from
13 beds to 61 beds, with the goal of helping 1,000 children
annually. We do not like turning away 10 to 15 little ones
each day who are in need of a home.
