About Us
Overview
Kid Net Foundation,
a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit agency, was formed in May 1991
by Lisa Matthews, a native of Dallas, and Phil Matteis,
a local businessman. The foundation was established to provide
housing and specialized services to needy children, with
an emphasis on underserved and at-risk populations.
From June 1991 through
June 1992, research was conducted on children's services
in Dallas County. Studies focused on existing services for
young children suffering from abuse and neglect. It became
quite clear that infants and children under the age of 12
had few options for emergency shelter care and foster home
services. The majority of foster
care and emergency residential programs were designed for
adolescents. Because drug-exposed infants and small children
represent a large percentage of the children in foster care,
it became apparent that they would benefit from specialized
services.
